Write Notes of Encouragement
R1:99 facilitates a weekly Grief & Loss Program for 45 men and women in the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment unit at the DC Jail. Recovery is challenging, and participants often struggle to stay positive and recognize their own progress. You can make a meaningful impact by writing short notes of encouragement. Over the years, we’ve found that this small act of kindness is deeply healing for both the person receiving the note and the person writing it. This opportunity is open to both individuals and groups and takes about two hours.
Add a Weekly Support Group for 10 Returning Citizens
For most individuals at the DC Jail, the journey eventually leads back home. But transitioning back into the community can be incredibly overwhelming, scary, and lonely. Many returning citizens face this pivotal moment with little to no economic opportunity or healthy family support.
Through our Grief and Loss Program, we’ve been a steady anchor for many during their incarceration. In fact, those we serve consistently tell us how much this program has helped them—and how deeply they want to continue healing with us after their release.
To make this transition successful, we need your help.
Our Goal: Raise $8,000 These funds will launch and sustain a weekly support group for 10 returning citizens, providing them with the community and guidance they need to rebuild their lives.
