Honoring Our Voices
A Four-Hour Writing Workshop for Survivors of Sexual Trauma
Come join us to explore, express, and write within a supportive group of survivors of sexual trauma. The format is a combination of two primary activities: 1. Writing and reading our writings to each other and 2. Mindfulness practices – breathing exercises and gentle body movements to help rewire our brains/bodies We will move between these two activities and explore the joy and strength of our true selves. Writing within a supportive group will enable us to: 1. pour out feelings and emotions onto paper 2. reclaim and preserve memories of ourselves, people, and events 3. sort out thoughts and clarify ideas 4. take another step in our healing journey The simple writing exercises are designed to work for beginners as well as more experienced writers. No prior experience is necessary, as we will support and encourage each other’s creativity. Our bodies often hold our experiences of trauma, loss or suffering, constricting our capacity to be fully present. By engaging in breath awareness, gentle body movement, and other mindfulness practices we will open ourselves up to expressing ourselves in the present moment. Unlike the family and societal messages that tell survivors to be silent, we will forge together to find our voices! Group Leader: Reena Bernards, LCMFT, is a writer and a licensed family therapist. Reena has completed two manuscripts – a novel and a memoir. You can read her blog posts here – www.childandfamilymentalhealth.com Reena will be joined by Candace Wheeler, LGPC, R1:99 www.r199.org |
