Shelter from the Storm: Hope for Survivors of Sexual Abuse
12-week Courses, beginning in September, 2019
Shelter From the Storm (Shelter) is a Christian curriculum written by Cynthia Kubetin & James Mallory, M.D. Even though this program has been around for several decades, the material is still relevant today and is a great entry point for survivors who have not experienced group therapy or those who are just starting their healing journey. It is an integrated course of study divided into 12 units with five lessons in each unit. To achieve the full benefit, you will need to purchase the workbook from your therapist, prepare your weekly assignments, and participate in the group sessions. The principles behind Shelter represent a lifelong learning process. It represents an opportunity to understand the cause of your pain, to learn to grieve, and to take responsibility for your healing, emotions, and behavior.
Recommended study time is five hours each week that should be spread out over five days so that you can apply the truths to your life. If you have difficulty concentrating, or find some of the material too challenging you may not be able to complete a unit in a week or even several weeks. Recovery is an individual process and is often s-l-o-w. The purpose is to help you change your life not to speed through the course.
